TUI WORKWIDE Tenerife – Rafael Palou

As a global travel group, TUI wants to enable its employees to work abroad from time to time. The pandemic in particular has shown that flexible working is possible. For this reason, TUI WORKWIDE was launched in 2021. Colleagues can work abroad for up to 30 days a year to have a healthy work-life balance. This balance is important for a fulfilling career and overall personal well-being.

Rafael Palou, TUI Musement Process Analyst in Mallorca, recently made the most of TUI WORKWIDE flexiworking on a 'surf and work' trip to Tenerife.

Here is his story

"I started late, but by now I'm an avid surfer. The first time I tried it was three years ago during a trip through South Africa and Namibia, and since then I can't stop! Living in Mallorca is a gift, but it's not the best place if you want to surf.

When I heard about TUI WORKWIDE on the intranet, I got the idea to pack my surfboard, laptop and some shorts and fly somewhere where I could combine working and surfing. So I booked a flight to Tenerife and a flat near the sea.

The experience was great. I stayed at Playa de las Américas, near the best surf spots anywhere. The flat was fully equipped and I had a good WIFI connection, so I could work from the terrace - as if I were at home in Mallorca. The only difference was that I felt like I was on the surfboard five minutes later after work.

I love the concept of TUI WORKWIDE and want to do it again soon! It's a great way to combine travel and work. For my next WORKWIDE trip, I would like to use the full 30 days. I was thinking about Bali or Costa Rica, but since there is a big time difference there, maybe South Africa or Northern Europe would be a better option.

I can only recommend this experience to my colleagues. You can completely adapt TUI WORKWIDE to your needs, book a flat or a house and live a 'normal' life from another place. Or you can take a bigger break from reality by booking a hotel with all the amenities so you don't have to do anything but work and enjoy the destination."
