TUI Cruises names sixth cruise ship

TUI Cruises is delivering its growth roadmap at an impressive pace: With Mein Schiff 6, the shipping line has launched its sixth cruise ship, having named one new build every year since 2014.

The joint venture between TUI Group and Royal Caribbean Cruises was only established in 2008. The Hamburg-based team initially resembled the size of a start-up company. However, this was soon to change. Today, the shipping line’s cruise ships are very well-known in the German-speaking market and deliver an average occupancy level of more than 100 per cent every year.

Named in front of Hamburg’s new landmark

The ship naming ceremony on 1 June was again staged in Hamburg. The fourth new build was named close to the waterfront Elbphilharmonie. The concert hall’s titular organist, Iveta Apkalna, served as the godmother. The following video (in German language) shows the highlights of the exceptional ceremony:

Designed around customers’ wishes

The new cruise ship has capacity for around 2,500 passengers on 15 decks. Apart from cutting-edge technology and investments in environmental protection, a special focus in the design of Mein Schiff 6 was on the feel-good aspect. The ship boasts dining concepts successfully launched aboard her sister ship Mein Schiff 5 such as Hanami by Tim Raue or the Alpine-inspired Schmankerl as well as a 25-metre swimming pool.

However, the ship also offers new on-board amenities: The night club Abtanz Bar has been redesigned as a multi-functional hall to be used, inter alia, as a venue for lectures or readings during the day. The ship also features an Escape Room: Interested guests may form teams and register for an entry fee for an interactive puzzle experience, solving physical puzzles and other challenges. TUI Cruises has thus brought aboard a new attraction reflecting the latest trend in entertainment. Further structural and design changes have been introduced to meet the customers’ wishes, e.g. roofing structures for the outdoor sports hub with sun sails and a spacious lounge area for the audience to watch and cheer on the teams. New roofed wicker beach chairs at Außenalster Bar & Grill, Überschau Bar and Champagner Treff create holiday feelings and are great places to retreat, were the guests can make themselves comfortable and enjoy the magnificent view of the vast sea.
