Tourism Recovery Programme by TUI Care Foundation – Eco Nubia

The Tourism Recovery Programme is a training, mentoring and financial support programme launched by the TUI Care Foundation and enpact. It was designed to help 415 travel and tourism businesses in Egypt, Mexico, Kenya, South Africa and Tunisia get through the pandemic and become resilient, sustainable tourism businesses. Over 100 colleagues from the TUI Group have contributed to the programme, either by mentoring the participating businesses or by delivering expert workshops within its training component.

The islet of Bigeh in the middle of the mighty Nile provides breath-taking views over the river valley.
The ancient residents of this island had deserted this land in the middle of the past century due to the lack of services and living amenities. But in a bid to bring back the indigenous Nubian communities, a group of local entrepreneurs set up business here, and opened a hotel and a restaurant.

The TUI Care Foundation discovered this fascinating regeneration project whilst staying at the island’s hotel, Eco Nubia is one of the 415 innovative tourism businesses across the world that have been a part of the Tourism Recovery Programme, implemented by enpact and the TUI Care Foundation. Through the programme, small and medium enterprises like Eco Nubia have received monthly financial support, online training in business management topics and comprehensive one-to-one mentoring with experts from the global tourism industry.
