RIU Hotels wins 25 ”TUI Environmental Champion 2017” awards

  • This prize is given each year to hotels associated with the German tour operator that stand out for their commitment to sustainability and the environment
  • In this edition of 2017, RIU hotels have obtained the highest number of awards achieved to date

The tour operator TUI has granted the title of “2017 Environmental Champion“ (TUI Umwelt Champion) to 25 hotels from the RIU chain located in Spain, Portugal, Mexico and Morocco. These prestigious awards are given annually to hotels for their outstanding commitment to the environment and sustainability.

Since they were first given in 1996, the main goal of the “TUI Umwelt Champion“ awards has been to recognize the achievements of those hotels that meet the technical and organizational requirements of sustainable and responsible hotel management, focusing on areas such as energy and water savings. Hotels that receive the title have passed an assessment process involving points awarded by official auditors; this reflects their environmental and social commitment and includes the opinions of guests, collected by means of surveys.

Furthermore, these awards represent fulfilment of RIU's Social Corporate Responsibility strategic plan, which states as one of its priorities the certification of all its hotels with prestigious international sustainability awards.
