RIU opens first city hotel in Spain

The TUI hotel brand RIU has opened its first RIU Plaza in the Spanish capital and thus the first city hotel of this line in Spain.

One of the most legendary and well-known buildings in Madrid, the Edificio Españna, has regained the splendor of the 1950s with the new Hotel Riu Plaza España. The entire architectural and design project has arisen from a deep respect for the history of the building, which originally opened in 1953. All the zones of the hotel and the decoration selected for them are a wink to the building’s iconic status. So, from the lobby bar to the upper terraces, all the areas for guests’ use bring the essence of the 50s and 60s into the present day.

The 4-star Hotel Riu Plaza España with its 585 rooms offers guests a spectacular view of the city. There is a heated outdoor pool on floor 21. The sky bar on the 26th floor was inspired by the Movida Madrileña (Madrid Movement). In total, the new Riu Plaza España has more than 5,000 m2 for all kinds of events, including 17 meeting rooms. The most striking of these spaces is Sala Madrid with its double-height ceiling which has capacity for up to 1,500 people.

With this launch, the chain now has seven hotels in the Riu Plaza urban line globally, as well as three in construction in London, Toronto and a second one in New York. With the expansion of the hotel chain, RIU supports the TUI Group's growth course. In summer 2019, TUI Sensimar Zahara Beach & Spa in Andalusia and TUI Sensimar Don Pedro in Mallorca joined the portfolio in Spain. Overall, TUI operates a total of 88 hotels in Spain.
