We are mindful of the importance of travel and tourism for many countries in the world and for the people living there. We partner with these countries and other stakeholders to help shape the future of tourism.
The page sets out how TUl plans to advance its Sustainability Agenda, which is built on three pillars; People, Planet and Progress.
You can explore the different focus areas within these pillars and find out more about our recent progress, as we work towards our vision of tourism as a force for good.
Tourism is often a key driver of development and prosperity in many parts of the world. It creates employment, supports education, and can help improve social and environmental standards.
Through our People pillar we aim to ensure that local people and their communities benefit from tourism and the local supply chain, help fill the sustainability skills gap in the tourism industry through the TUI Sustainability Academy, and raise funds to support TUI Care Foundation in delivering positive social and environmental outcomes in destinations.
We are working to reduce the environmental impacts associated with our holidays.
Our emission reduction targets have been validated by the independent Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to ensure that they are grounded in climate science. SBTi validation means we are working to a globally recognised standard and provides accountability and guidance to support emissions reductions.
We will also change the way we use resources and adopt circular economy principles. These principles aim to reduce waste and increase reuse, recycling and resource efficiency. Our initial focus is on single-use plastic and food waste.
We aim to use our scale to create positive change through the holiday experiences we offer, and to play an active role in advancing sustainability within our sector.
Through the Destination Co-Lab, we are working in partnership to make Rhodes a leading example of tourism for the future, developing solutions which other destinations can then use as a blueprint. We will also enable our customers to make informed choices during their customer journey.
Reducing emissions from aviation is a major challenge for the travel industry. At TUI, SAF is one of several measures supporting our climate strategy, alongside:
TUI Airline’s emissions reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), helping ensure they are aligned with the latest climate science. Working with SBTi provides a recognised global standard, as well as independent guidance and accountability to support real emissions reductions consistent with limiting global warming.
In addition to aviation, TUI Group also has science-based emissions reduction targets in place for its cruise and hotel operations.
