“People often talk about the Canary Islands as if they’re all identical, but in reality each island has a completely different feel,” says Jack. “Choosing the right island, and the right hotel on that island, can be the difference between a good holiday and an incredible one.”
With year‑round sunshine, short flight times and a huge range of resorts, the Canary Islands continue to be one of the UK’s most popular destinations for both families and couples. According to Jack, that popularity only makes expert advice more important.
“Families, couples and multi‑generation groups all go to the Canaries, but they don’t all want the same experience,” he explained. “Some people want busy days and activities, others want peace, scenery and good food - and the beauty of the Canaries is that you can find all of that, if you choose well.”
The Canary Islands expansion forms part of TUI’s wider launch of 1,000 new hotels for Summer 2027, responding to strong demand for reliable sunshine destinations that work for every type of traveller.
“More choice is always good news for customers,” says Jack. “It means families and couples can be much more specific about what they want - whether that’s an active resort, something calm and scenic, or a hotel that works equally well for different ages.
“My top tip across all the Canaries is to not be afraid to explore the islands. There's so much beauty to be found if you go looking for it.”
Below, Jack shares his island‑by‑island advice on where to stay, what not to miss and how to get the most out of a Canary Islands holiday, based on years of booking experience and customer feedback.
“For couples it’s great because it’s peaceful, spacious and easy to get around. The clifftop views are beautiful, and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed."
“Tenerife works so well because it offers totally different experiences in one holiday,” says Jack.
For families, one attraction comes up time and time again: “Siam Park is often described as one of the best waterparks in the world, and it’s one of those spots that my customers rave to me about when they get home. It’s got a bit of everything with those big adrenaline drop slides as well as kid-friendly water playgrounds.
“Even couples without children enjoy it,” Jack adds. “There are calmer areas like the lazy rivers, so it’s not just about thrills.”
Jack also strongly recommends visiting Teide National Park. “The volcanic scenery surprises people. It feels completely different to the coast and really shows another side of the island.”
“When it comes to food in Tenerife, some of the best meals are in small, local restaurants away from the busiest promenades,” Jack says. “Fresh fish and papas arrugadas [a traditional boiled potato style Canarian dish] don’t necessarily sound fancy, but they’re often the meals customers remember most.”
“For something more authentic, northern towns and villages like La Orotava give a great sense of everyday Canarian life.”
“Gran Canaria surprises a lot of people,” says Jack. “They come for the beach, but end up loving how diverse the island feels.”
“The sand dunes of Maspalomas are one of Gran Canaria’s highlights,” says Jack. “Early morning or sunset is best - it feels incredibly calm and doesn’t look like Europe at all.”
“Heading inland is a real eye‑opener,” Jack explains. “Mountain villages and winding roads to beautiful viewpoints show a completely different side of the island.“But my number one favourite spot is what’s known as Gran Canaria’s ‘Little Venice’ – there's a brilliant TUI Musement tour that takes you to visit Puerto de Mogan by boat, and it’s just stunning. The town got its nickname because of the canal, the blue-and-yellow-trimmed white cottages, and iron balconies that are filled with flowers.”
“Lanzarote is ideal for people who want a quieter, more laid‑back holiday,” says Jack. “It’s much more about scenery and atmosphere than ticking off attractions.”
“Timanfaya National Park has a volcanic landscape that gives the island so much personality and is very accessible even with children.”
“Lanzarote does simple dining really well,” Jack explains. “Small seafront restaurants serving fresh local food are where the island shines - long lunches by the sea are definitely part of the Lanzarote experience!”
“The beaches are the gem of the island,” says Jack. “They stretch for miles and rarely feel crowded, even in busy periods.”
“Long coastal walks at sunrise or sunset are a favourite with my customers,” Jack explains. “They all say it’s incredibly relaxing, and lovely to see the island before it wakes up.”
“The Canary Islands definitely can be a one‑size‑fits‑all, but matching the right island with the right hotel to suit your travel style can really make a difference. With more choice now available, families and couples can find somewhere that genuinely fits them.”
