Palma de Mallorca, October 20, 2025 – The TUI Palma Marathon Mallorca 2025 celebrated a record-breaking edition this Sunday, welcoming more than 9,000 participants from 76 countries and reaffirming its status as the largest sporting event in the Balearic Islands. Over 30,000 spectators from near and far cheered the runners on the sideline. All race bibs sold out two months before the event, confirming its growing appeal both in Spain and abroad. Next year’s edition is expected to allow an even higher number of runners due to improvements in security & efficiency.
This year’s race set a new milestone with many participants joining in from outside Spain. The largest groups of runners came from Germany (39%) and the United Kingdom (21%).
The 21st edition also stood out for its strong female participation, reaching 46% of total runners – one of the highest figures in the world – and 54% in the 10K race. The event also saw a younger profile on the starting line: for the first time, the 25–29 Generation Z age group was the largest, replacing the traditionally dominant 40–45 bracket – underpinning the trend for “race-cations” for younger people.
Palma turned into a spectacular open-air stage by the sea, with thousands of spectators cheering along the scenic route. Runners enjoyed views of the bay and iconic landmarks such as the Cathedral, La Llotja and Es Baluard. The atmosphere peaked at kilometre 10, where the TUI Hot Spot offered live music and local entertainment.
Among the runners were more than 500 TUI employees, including Sebastian Ebel, CEO of TUI Group; Peter Krueger, Chief Strategy Officer; Marco Ciomperlik, CEO TUI Airline and Peter Ulwahn, CEO of TUI Musement. The race was officially started by Sybille Reiß, Chief People Officer, and Thomas Ellerbeck, Member of the Group Executive Committee.
“The TUI Palma Marathon Mallorca brings together sport, tourism and the local community in an extraordinary way. Seeing the energy and diversity of its runners, the smiles on everybody’s face and the spirit of togetherness on a day like this is a reminder of the event’s unique spirit. Mallorca is one of TUI’s most important destinations – and giving back to the community is part of our approach. At TUI, we are proud to be part of it,” said Sebastian Ebel, CEO of TUI Group.
The event, organised by local sports-experts Kumulus, once again placed sustainability at its core. Key measures included T-shirts, bags and medal ribbons made from recycled and biodegradable materials, paperless registration and communication systems, and a comprehensive waste and recycling programme. All operational management was handled digitally, setting a new benchmark for responsible event organisation.
During the race, the new TUI smart #1 and #3 electric models – first introduced in June – were also showcased, reinforcing TUI’s commitment to sustainable mobility.
