As millions of Brits celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month during February, a pair of TUI holiday reps who fell head over heels while working abroad have revealed how they kept their relationship alive across three countries and countless shifting time zones before finally reuniting for their first ski season together in the French Alps.
Alina, from Bracknell, and Amy, from Stoke, first met during a busy summer season as TUI reps in Marrakech. What began as a friendly work friendship soon blossomed into something more as the pair found themselves working side by side every day.
“I’d never dated women before, but we just clicked,” says Alina. “By the end of the season, Amy made the first move on a night out and it honestly felt like love at first kiss. We’ve been inseparable ever since.”
But just as sparks flew, the seasonal work lifestyle kicked in and split them apart.
Amy stayed in Marrakech for winter as a TUI rep while Alina headed to Val d’Isère for a ski season as a Team Leader with Crystal Ski Holidays. When summer rolled around, they were both sent to Greece but still separated by hundreds of miles apart. Amy ended up in Crete, while Alina was based in Santorini.
To keep their romance alive, the couple relied on daily FaceTimes, shared playlists, voice notes between shifts, watching the same TV shows at the same time and planning meet‑ups months in advance — even if they had to cross borders to make them happen.
“It was brutal sometimes,” says Amy. “After a long shift all I wanted was to crash on the sofa with Alina. Instead, we found little rituals such as morning messages, watching sunsets from different countries and sending each other photos, even eating the same dinner on video call. It kept us going.”
Now, after more than a year of navigating love on the move, the pair are finally together again working as Crystal Ski Holidays reps in Val Thorens.
“It feels like we’re finally living the same life,” says Alina. “We wake up in the same apartment, work in the same resort and our date nights are on the slopes. It’s actually really romantic.”
Alina is currently a Team Leader on her third winter season for Crystal, while Amy is tackling her first ever ski season and learning to ski from scratch. “She’s doing amazing,” says Alina. “Who would have thought love would get Amy onto skis? I’m really proud of her.”
One of the best things about living and working together is we’re always there to lift each other up,” Amy says. “We’ve done distance, bad Wi‑Fi, different time zones, this feels like the reward.”
And the travel‑loving duo aren’t slowing down. They’re already dreaming of a ski season in Canada, a campervan trip around Australia, and tropical placements in Mexico or the Maldives.
“We’ve worked in different countries and different seasons, but being here together feels like everything has finally come together,” says Alina. “Now we get to figure out the next chapter, side by side.”
