The TUI Musement study based on Google searches reveals the 30 European cities from which day trips are most frequently searched
London, Paris and Rome lead the ranking
For many travellers, a city break no longer ends at the city limits. Day trips are now a natural extension of a stay in a major city, offering the opportunity to discover scenic landscapes, charming towns or cultural landmarks within easy reach of major urban destinations.
This interest is reflected in the latest study by
TUI Musement, a leading provider of tours and activities, which analysed Google search volumes to identify the European cities from which travellers most frequently search for day trips*.
From London to Athens, Rome to Barcelona, the ranking features 30 cities that not only stand out for their cultural appeal, but also serve as ideal starting points for exploring nearby destinations within a single day.
The top 10 cities
- London, United Kingdom. With more than 260,000 searches related to day trips, London leads the ranking. Among the most popular options are visits to Stonehenge, the iconic monument dating back over 5,000 years, and the city of Bath, famous for its Roman baths and recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Windsor Castle and tours to filming locations from the series Downton Abbey also attract strong interest. Recommended experience: Stonehenge and Bath day trip
- Paris, France. Beyond landmarks such as the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower, many travellers take advantage of their stay to visit the Palace of Versailles or the picturesque village of Giverny, home to Claude Monet’s house and gardens. Another highly sought-after excursion, albeit longer, is Mont Saint-Michel, one of the country’s most iconic attractions. Recommended experience: Versailles and Trianon from Paris
- Rome, Italy. Thanks to its location, Rome offers easy access to some of Italy’s most renowned destinations. Among the most in-demand excursions are Pompeii, the ancient Roman city buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, and the Amalfi Coast. To the north, tours through Tuscany are also among the most popular options. Recommended experience: Pompeii, Amalfi Coast and Positano day trip
