Joan Punyet Miró not only bears the name of his famous grandfather, Joan Miró, but is an artist, musician, author and art historian himself. Born in Palma in 1968, he later studied Art History at the University of New York and completed a Master’s degree in London. Today, he dedicates much of his life to preserving his grandfather’s artistic legacy and runs “Successió Miró”, the copyright office responsible for managing all intellectual property rights relating to Joan Miró's work.
Yet to his grandson, Joan Miró was much more than a world-famous artist. Joan Punyet Miró remembers the many personal moments they shared on Mallorca. They both loved watching the spectacular sunsets and the Mallorcan full moon together, but he particularly treasures the time they spent drawing together at the Son Abrines estate in Cala Major, where the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró is now located. They also shared a love of nature and Mallorca. To this day, Joan Punyet Miró enjoys the island’s mountains, sea and beaches.
