Rafael Fiol speaks words that sound like music and blaze like fire: "I am a very happy person. Here in Mallorca, I have met fantastic and wonderful people with whom I can work on projects that enrich me deeply and fill my heart with beautiful experiences." Fiol owes this happiness to his work as the choir director of the Palma Gospel Singers and as a performer of a Dimoni (devil) in the folklore group "Devils of the Cave of the Black Goat", which performs at traditional festivals across Mallorca.
The Palma Gospel Singers aim to contribute to the growing popularity of gospel music and to highlight the finest human values among people of all faiths. For this reason, Rafael Fiol also refers to it as "spiritual music". "All the singers have their own way of life, their own spirituality and their own beliefs. Gospel music simply appeals to a wide range of people." Fiol describes his passion as an "incredible force and energy".
The Palma Gospel Singers have existed since 2015 and are based at the Porciúncula Church in Arenal, Playa de Palma. They perform throughout the year and consist of 64 singers. "That is a sufficiently large number to ensure a balance between sopranos, altos and tenors", says Rafael Fiol. He says it is a genuine privilege to work with such a large group of people who trust him and allow themselves to be guided by him.
