Captain Jan Fortun comes from Brandenburg and left his parental home early to go to sea. However, the road there was not a straight one. While a career as a pilot or captain seemed preordained at kindergarten age, the navigator reveals in the video that another training programme almost kept him on land. In the end, Jan Fortun learned his profession from scratch and became a captain aboard the Mein Schiff fleet at the young age of 32. He quickly became known for his on-stage appearances with his weatherman Hugo, whom many guests already know from the on-board announcements of their "Kaptein".
