Travelling opens doors to new experiences, cultures and memories that last a lifetime. However, travelling can be stressful, even for seasoned travellers. For families with neurodivergent members, finding the right accommodation can make or break the trip. Hotels that understand and cater to different sensory needs and provide quiet spaces can transform what might be an overwhelming experience into a comfortable home base.
Recognising the challenges, TUI has taken steps to make holidays more accessible for neurodivergent holidaymakers. TUI offers two TUI BLUE hotels with Sensory Rooms and plans to expand this concept to three more hotels in 2026. Sensory Rooms are spaces designed to support neurodivergent children and their families by providing a calm, low-stimulation environment for those who may feel overwhelmed by busy or unfamiliar surroundings. They feature elements such as soft lighting, interactive sensory equipment or quiet zones where guests can decompress and regulate their sensory experiences.
Guests who have already experienced the Sensory Rooms in action find them to be helpful and relaxing. A mother, whose 20-year-old son is diagnosed with autism and ADHD, is one such guest. She says: “We loved the sensory room which was the perfect space to relax after a day of activities. It was a safe space for my autistic son.”
