School-to-work transition, skills and transition to net-zero are the big topics for the young generation in OECD countries - TUI Care Foundation supports the OECD’s global Youthwise initiative

  • The OECD’s Youth Advisory Board Youthwise brings together young people from 24 OECD countries to make sure their perspectives and ideas are being heard.
  • TUI Care Foundation supports series of events in which the young people discuss topics that affect the young generation.

The Youthwise initiative provides its participants with a platform to gain a greater understanding of key policy issues that affect young people and of policy-making processes. It also offers young participants from 24 OECD countries the chance to engage on a range of topics and themes with OECD experts and external stakeholders, such as the TUI Care Foundation.

Recognising the role of young people in shaping the future of policymaking, the OECD created Youthwise in 2021 as a platform to bring the young generation’s perspectives, insights and ideas to the international organisation. At the core of the initiative are interactive physical, virtual and hybrid workshops which are supported by the TUI Care Foundation, helping members of Youthwise gain a greater understanding of key policy issues affecting their generation.

All applications for the programme are reviewed by an inter-generational OECD jury to create a diverse and representative cohort of young people. The average age of the 22 participants is 24.5 years and they represent 24 different OECD countries.

Alexander Panczuk, Executive Director of the TUI Care Foundation, explains: ”The voices of the young generation need to be amplified. The young generation is not the future – it is the present too. It is essential that young people are being heard, especially on issues that shape their lives - from school-to-work transition and skills development to sustainability and climate resilience. These are all key topics in TUI Care Foundation's mission. We are proud to support Youthwise and we are looking forward to see the Youth Advisory Board's conclusions."

The TUI Care Foundation’s participation in the Youthwise initiative is part of its commitment to fostering and nurturing skills growth in young people - a key aspect of its TUI Academy and TUI Junior Academy programmes. The TUI Academy offers vocational training for disadvantaged young people to access high quality education, work experience, life skills coaching and a brighter future, and the TUI Junior Academy empowers young children to become eco champions through environmental education and enables learning opportunities for young people from disadvantaged communities.
