Island tours and city trips, hiking tours and diving courses, safaris in the desert: Experiences are now at least as important for holidaymakers as hotel, beach and pool. TUI customers can already choose from more than 150,000 products. Of these, around 50,000 excursions and activities are curated worldwide, which means that they are qualitatively tested and classified as particularly recommendable. But what does this mean in concrete terms and how are these tours selected?
"Our product developers in the destinations analyse the results of guest surveys and statistics, trends, analyses and local ideas in order to select and develop new curated products," explains Mary McElligott, Head of Excursions, Activities and Ancillaries at TUI Destination Experiences. In the end, it is often the TUI guests themselves who make the decisive recommendations. "In addition to mystery shoppers and our colleagues, customer feedback is a key factor in creating our offer," explains Mary McElligott. All these tips gradually lead to a portfolio of excursions and activities that have been hand-picked and reviewed many times and guarantee the holidaymaker the best possible quality.
McElligott describes the route to a curated excursion as follows: "Our staff at the destination carefully select the sights, guides, means of transport and local restaurants. They also consider strict health & safety and sustainability criteria, including childcare and animal welfare. We then create the product description, and our photo and video teams bring these experiences to life for our guests."
The evaluation criteria include the following points: Entrance fees, food and drink included in the price, fast track access, local experiences, small monolingual groups, themed guides, exclusive venues or stops on the route, special vehicles such as boats, jeeps or trucks, sustainability and VIP upgrades. Regular checks and re-evaluations of the products on offer are also carried out. Travelers can book the curated excursions via the Internet platform www.musement.com, the TUI App, at a travel agency or via the TUI reps in the destination. The portfolio of curated products is to be significantly expanded in the coming years.
