Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is upgrading the concept of its EUROPA and will therefore implement extensive construction work during the two-week dry-dock period in October 2019. Following the makeover and design upgrade, the passengers will enjoy a completely new experience aboard the luxury ship EUROPA: Greater flexibility and individuality due to unassigned seating at EUROPA Restaurant. A modern dress code in line with the new ambience and attitude on board. With The Globe by Kevin Fehling, EUROPA has won an outstanding and innovative three-star chef from Hamburg The new, additional restaurant Pearls will serve seafood variations and tapas. A new, holistic fitness and wellbeing programme has been designed to reflect the appeal of leading a conscious and healthy lifestyle.

“As the luxury market is changing, the wishes and preferences of our guests and prospective new customers are also changing. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises knows the preferences of its luxury guests and is continually developing its offering and setting new trends. Through the extensive makeover and innovations on board, we are responding to the development in the luxury segment by creating a significantly more modern and casual EUROPA. We are therefore significantly investing in the ship,” said Karl J. Pojer, CEO Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, at the presentation of the new brochure.

The new concept for EUROPA was developed on the basis of comprehensive 360-degree market research commissioned by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. Guests, prospective passengers and distribution partners were interviewed about general motives and developments in the luxury cruise market and their specific views regarding EUROPA. The results have shown that needs and preferences have significantly changed: More than 80 per cent of the respondents, for instance, expressed the wish to enjoy a diverse gourmet-quality culinary offering and an informal, easygoing atmosphere on board. Accordingly, a casual dress code and unassigned seating at small tables were listed as key aspects by around 70 per cent of the respondents.

The company has responded to these wishes by introducing a more modern dress code. The classical gala evenings and captain’s dinner will also be replaced by more modern formats.

“Since her launch, EUROPA – like her sister ship EUROPA 2 - has been rated as the best cruise ship in the world by the Berlitz Cruise Guide. Our goal is to further develop this high standard. Through the makeover, we are therefore bringing EUROPA into the modern age. EUROPA’s core values will remain unchanged: perfect hospitality and individual, personal service,” said Pojer.

After the dry-dock period, the culinary offering in the five restaurants – The Globe by Kevin Fehling, Pearls, EUROPA Restaurant, Venezia and Lido Café – will change entirely. At EUROPA Restaurant, the number of tables for two will nearly double to around 50, and unassigned seating will create significantly greater flexibility. The Venezia and Lido Café restaurants will also be upgraded.

Fine dining at The Globe by Kevin Fehling and Pearls

Exceptional talent and three-star chef Kevin Fehling will offer modern variations of classic dishes in his floating gourmet restaurant The Globe. With his unconventional creations, he has shaped the dining landscape since the start of his career, which included the position of sous-chef aboard EUROPA for some time. In the future, he will personally spend 20 days per year aboard EUROPA. The restaurant will continually be managed by a deputy from Fehling’s team from the restaurant in Hamburg. The vessel will also feature an additional restaurant: the Pearls on Deck 7 including an outdoor terrace at the stern of the ship will offer seafood variations and tapas.

Mindfulness through Europa Refresh

Another enriching innovation for the passengers is the holistic fitness and wellbeing concept EUROPA Refresh. “This new concept combines fitness, health and relaxation. We offer innovative courses based on the well-known Les Mills training concept. Moreover, we will respond to the healthy eating trend with nutrition workshops offered in cooperation with the physician and author Dr Anne Fleck,” says Gabi Haupt, Director Product Management EUROPA. “In this way, we combine all aspects of a mindful lifestyle.”
