RIU builds first hotel in Canada

TUI’s hotel brand RIU is set to build a hotel of its Riu Plaza urban line in Toronto. The opening is scheduled for 2021.

TUI Group’s hotel brand RIU has announced the construction of a hotel of its Riu Plaza urban line in Toronto. The largest city in Canada is considered to be at the heart of Canadian culture and plays host to many national and international celebrations. The project will establish the first RIU hotel in Canada and will add continuity to the hotel company’s plan to expand into the world’s big cities.

The project is currently at the end of the design phase and the hotel is set to open in 2021. The building, a newly-built modern tower block, will be located in the city’s financial district and intended for mixed use. RIU’s investment will be spent for the hotel part of the building which will have 350 rooms, meeting rooms, a gym, bar and restaurant. The upper floors will be intended for residential use.

“This project means a new drive to raise awareness of our brand within and beyond the country”, says Luis Riu, CEO of RIU Hotels & Resorts. The hotel company has had a relationship with Canada for years. The country is one of the most important markets for RIU hotels in the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America, but only with the opening of this new hotel, RIU will also be represented with its own hotel here.
