Commitment of TUI employees for clean beaches

Already more than 40km of beach cleaned this year

Employees from TUI Destination Experiences are cleaning beaches again this year. As part of "Beach Clean" activities, colleagues meet on the beaches of holiday destinations and collect everything that does not belong there. This year, already 23 such beach cleans took place. More than 700 TUI employees as well as employees of partner hotels, local organizations and also some guests took part.

42.5 kilometers of beach have been cleaned this year, 726 garbage bags have been filled with 5334 kg of garbage, especially plastic. In August and September alone, 21 Beach Cleans are planned. Particularly active were colleagues in Greece with six beach cleans, but also colleagues in Turkey and Italy (with 3 events each).

In addition, TUI Group's largest hotel brand RIU makes an important contribution to avoiding plastic waste. The RIU hotels in Spain and Portugal as well as Cape Verde have been offering compostable straws to their guests since this summer. Likewise, RIU is planning to incorporate them into its hotels in America as of 2019. This will produce less plastic waste and protect the environment. The new drinking straws are 100 percent biodegradable and also compostable.

More information about the sustainability commitment of the TUI Group can be found in the sustainability report 2017.
