A pioneer revives its hallmark: The world’s first ROBINSON Club lays the foundation stone for its new ‘torre’

The prominent ‘torre’, the multi-storey building at ROBINSON Club Jandia Playa, is a piece of tourism history in Fuerteventura. In the early 70s, it was one of the first buildings to accommodate holidaymakers at the still undeveloped sandy beach near Morro Jable. TUI recognised the potential of the destination and used the location to establish the first resort operated by its premium club resort provider. Around 50 years later, the Canary Islands are a trending destination, and ROBINSON is building a new ‘torre’ for its traditional club. At a ceremony attended by ROBINSON Managing Director Bernd Mäser, Island Council President Marcial Morales and invited guests yesterday, the foundation stone for the new building was laid. The modern complex featuring a rooftop bar and an infinity pool is scheduled for completion in November 2018.

The old ‘torre’, the hallmark of ROBINSON Club Jandia Playa, had been demolished since the beginning of January to make room for its successor. Although in the 70s Fuerteventura was a place where power was still produced by generators, drinking water was supplied from trucks and water for the showers was pumped from a fountain, the club became a popular holiday destination early on. Due to the large number of guests visiting the resort, it was expanded time and again and today offers a comprehensive range of features from the WellFit® area all the way to modern restaurants. In the nearly 50 years since its inception, the club has accommodated around one million guests.

“With the construction of the new ‘torre’, we are opening a new chapter in the history of ROBINSON Club Jandia Playa. We offer our guests the proven ROBINSON concept in the familiar setting with state-of-the-art comfort,” said Bernd Mäser. The around 40-metre high building provides every comfort with ten storeys featuring 114 double rooms, 26 suites, a skybar with infinity pool, a chillout lobby with a lifestyle boutique and two seminar rooms. In future, the guests will also be able to enjoy the renovated WellFit® spa area and a redesigned restaurant with a large outdoor terrace.
